While you wait

Four things to do before we get there

Most of the damage from a leak happens in the first twenty minutes. These four steps cost you nothing and save a great deal.

1

Shut the water off

Find the stopcock — usually under the kitchen sink — and turn it clockwise. That alone stops most of the damage.

2

Kill the power if water is near electrics

If water is anywhere near lights, sockets or the consumer unit, switch that circuit off at the board. Don’t touch anything wet and live.

3

Contain it

Buckets, towels, and move furniture and anything electrical out of the way. Don’t burst a bulging ceiling — it’s holding the water where you can see it.

4

Ring us

Call 01302 438049 and describe what you can see. We’ll talk you through anything else worth doing while we’re on the way.

What counts as an emergency

If any of these are happening, don’t wait until morning

  • Water coming through a ceiling or down a wall
  • A burst pipe, or a leak you can’t shut off
  • Water anywhere near sockets, lights or the consumer unit
  • No water at all in the house
  • A leaking boiler, or pressure that keeps dropping to zero
  • An overflowing toilet or a blocked soil pipe
  • No heating or hot water in freezing weather, especially with children or elderly at home

People we’ve rescued

Word for word from customers of Plumber To The Rescue. Nothing edited, nothing tidied up.

The plumber fixed a leaking trap and shut-off valve underneath my kitchen sink. It was an emergency job and he came straight away at 21:00 in the evening. He was prompt in attending my call and offered a professional service at a fair price. We will definitely be calling plumber to the rescue back again to assist with the installation of our dishwasher.

Had a great experience and would 100% recommend! We had a leak in our washer and a previous leak under the bathroom sink. The team was able to address both issues and also caught a small leak in our washer hose that could have caused problems later. You can tell they put a lot of honesty and care into their work. We’ve had our fair share of bad plumber experiences, but with them, we really appreciated how we were shown the root of each problem and kept informed throughout. They also made sure to test everything multiple times to ensure the issues were fully resolved.

FAQ

Emergency questions, answered quickly

If the answer you need isn’t here, ring us on 01302 438049 and just ask.

Where is my stopcock?

Nine times out of ten it’s under the kitchen sink. Failing that, look in the downstairs cloakroom, under the stairs, in an airing cupboard or near the front door. Turn it clockwise to shut the water off. It’s worth finding it now rather than at 2am.

Water is coming through the ceiling — what first?

Turn the water off at the stopcock, then turn the lighting circuit off at the consumer unit if the water is anywhere near a light fitting. Put a bucket under it and don’t poke the bulge in the plaster. Then ring us on 01302 438049.

Do you charge more at night or weekends?

We’ll always tell you the price before we start, whatever the time. You’ll never get an invoice with a figure on it you haven’t already agreed.

Is a dripping tap an emergency?

Usually not — but a seized valve you can’t shut off, water near electrics or anything soaking into a floor or ceiling is. If you’re unsure, ring and describe it. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can wait until morning.

How fast can you actually get here?

We’re based in Doncaster, so for most of the area we’re talking a couple of hours rather than a couple of days. When you ring, we’ll give you a realistic time rather than a hopeful one.

Still leaking? Stop reading and ring us.
